Thomas John Hynek

1944 - 2023

Thomas John Hynek, died, December 7, 2023, born November 6, 1944, in Racine Wisconsin to Lester
Anton Hynek and Eleanor Elizabeth Roberts Hynek. Tom graduated from Racine Lutheran High School in
1962 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on January 18, 1964. His service included a tour of
duty in Chu Lai, Vietnam from May 1965 to June 1966. He received his honorable discharge on January
18, 1968. He was the embodiment of the Marine’s motto, Semper Fi and his children were incredibly
proud of his service to his country.
His life’s work included 52 years as a salesman, sales manager, national sales manager, and director of
sales. At his retirement from Payment Express Systems/ Priority Payment Systems he represented 18
regional and community banks as a regional bank manager in a five-state territory for merchant and
RDC/ACH services. Co-workers said it was a true pleasure to work with Tom.
Tom enjoyed bass fishing, golf, baseball, football, and most other sports. As any good Racine native, he
was a fan of the Green Bay Packers and as a transplant to the south, he also cheered on the Atlanta
Braves (although he did believe they needed some better pitching). He loved dogs especially his late
dog, Mugsy. As many of his friends and neighbors have stated, he was so good to keep in touch by
sharing music, pictures, and stories.
He is survived by his children: Son, Christopher, wife Kelly and their children, Connor, Colton, Colin and
Kendall of Rockmart, Georgia. Daughter, Erin of Kennesaw, Georgia. Son Matthew, wife Jessica and son
Cooper of Winston-Salem, NC. He is also survived by his former wife and dear friend, Brenda Hynek,
also of Winston-Salem. He is preceded in death by his mother and father as well as his two brothers,
Gary, and Richard, who both died earlier this year. A celebration of life will be determined at a later
date.

Tom was my cousin, his mother and mine were sisters. I was fortunate to speak with him on the phone, just a couple of times this year. I would like to offer my deepest condolences to his children and their families. God bless and keep you all.
