Michael H. Dayberry

1943 - 2024

Michael H. Dayberry, 81, passed away unexpectedly Thursday November 21, 2024.
Mike was born June 15, 1943, to Cletus Dixon and Edith Walker Dayberry. He graduated from Camp Lejeune High School in 1961. Mike served his country for over 7 years, including Vietnam. In recognition of his service, he was a 5-time Air Medal recipient. Mike’s love of flying led to a more than 35-year career in aviation. Mike also had a tremendous passion for animals and music. Mike never met a stranger and was always ready to help others. Mike loved his family more than anything. He was so proud of his daughter and three grandsons, spending most of the past 2 spring and fall seasons traveling the Foothills of North Carolina to watch them play baseball and flag football. Mike will be deeply missed by all who got to enjoy his love and kindness.
Mike was preceded by his parents in death and is survived by his daughter, Courtney (Scott) Lawson and three grandsons, Wyatt, Curtis and Shepherd.
A visitation will be held from 12:00PM to 2:30PM Sunday December 1, 2024 at Salem Funeral Home, 120 S. Main St. Winston-Salem, NC. Military honors will take place at 2:30PM at the funeral home.

    Mike was an amazing fellow. He had some amazing stories of his life. Living abroad and his flying days. He loved his daughter and those 3 grandsons. You will be missed. We were blessed to have you at Gateway.

    Mike has been a close friend since 1957, we met at Camp Lejeune High School. We both loved racing and music. Our parents knew each other from the 40’s. Mike was always a great I will miss him greatly.
