Kemper Coy Wilson, Jr. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at Trellis Supportive Care with his family by his side.
Kemper was born May 27, 1947 in Surry County. He grew up in Galax, Virginia and later moved to Kernersville, NC. He graduated from East Forsyth High School in 1965. Following graduation Kemper proudly joined the U.S. Navy to serve his country.
Kemper worked at Dixie Bearings, Pleasants Hardware, Duron Paint, Sherwin Williams and was later self-employed as a paint contractor. Kemper worked hard and loved his family very much. “Kemp” as many called him loved bowling, fishing and coaching. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends who he loved very much.
Kemper married the love of his life on September 16, 1967. Together they built a beautiful life and raised 2 children: Jeffery Scott Wilson (Hannah) and Alicia Nicole Wilson. Kemper was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He had 2 grandchildren: Julian and Hallie Wilson.
Kemper is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Doub Wilson, children, grandchildren along with other family members.
Kemper will be missed but his love, kindness and memories will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held at New Friendship Baptist Church at 1PM, Thursday, August 27, 2026. Pastor Chris Byrne will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Trellis Supportive Care (101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103) or to The Building Fund at New Friendship Baptist Church (4258 Old Lexington Road, Winston Salem, NC 27107).
