Judith Shaw Peterson

1939 - 2022

Judith “Judy” Shaw Peterson, born in Siler City on September 2, 1939 to the late John and Thelma Shaw, passed on September 23, 2022 at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Edward Kenneth Peterson. Judy was a proud graduate of Wake Forest University (’60) who loved her Demon Deacons; a retired educator from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System and a dedicated member of over 51 years of NC Beta Chapter, Alpha Delta Kappa (International Honorary Organization for Women Educators) where she served as the Beta Chapter President and Membership Chair. Survivors include her devoted nieces Jan Edwards (Mark) and Norma Murphy (Clayton and Nick); sisters-in-law Nancy Hensel and Mary Beth Peterson; nephews Steve Hensel (Carolyn, Katy, Louie and James), Bryan Hensel, Allen Smith (Jenay, Brant, Ashley, and Jamal) and niece Carson Mather (Evan). Jan and Norma (“the girls”) want to express their deep gratitude for the beautiful flowers, cards, and words of encouragement. She was blessed with the true love of family, irreplaceable friends, and all of those magnificent books. A celebration of Judy’s life is planned for Spring 2023 at the Reynolda Manor Public Library.
