James Gray "Jim" Sapp
1948 - 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James “Jim” Sapp. Born on August 23, 1948, Jim led a fulfilled life before he was called home on April 11, 2025. Known for his quiet, sarcastic, plain-spoken, and honest personality, Jim served as a pillar of strength and unwavering character to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A graveside service will be held at 5:00 PM, on Friday, April 18, 2025, at Salem God’s Acre in Winston-Salem.
Jim is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Linda Sapp; by his son, Jonathan Sapp and wife, Danielle, and granddaughter, Juliete; grandson, Hunter Sapp; granddaughter, Caroline Delancey and her husband, Aaron; daughter-in-law, Gretchen Peoples; and daughter-in-law Scotty Sapp. Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife, Glenda, and sons Jeffrey Peoples and James Grey Sapp, Jr., and his sisters Susan James and Sherri Bates.
A man of simple tastes and pleasures, Jim enjoyed a good steak with a side of chocolate ice cream and a cold Pepsi to wash it down. A music lover, he delighted in classic country tunes. He also posessed a steady hand and could repair anything that moved or floated. Jim was an avid viewer of western TV shows and held a special fondness for any movie that featured a horse. He was a die-hard fan of the New York Yankees, Mickey Mantle, and Dale Earnhardt. Fishing and beach vacations were his chosen means of relaxation.
Jim held an invaluable wealth of wisdom. He often said that you cannot listen and talk at the same time and showed through example how to treat strangers with kindness.
Jim leaves behind a legacy of a rare soul that was universally liked. His genuine laughter and unique ability to humorously critique others without causing offense were truly extraordinary. His self-deprecating style often brought smiles to those around him. Jim will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, husband, and true friend. His remarkable honesty and unparalleled compassion will be greatly missed.
Though our hearts grieve, we find comfort in knowing that Jim’s life was filled with love, laughter, and achievement. We invite you to join us in celebrating his life and cherishing the memories he has shared with us.
I will miss him. His sister Vicki
