James Elmer Peebles, Jr.

1941 - 2023

James Elmer Peebles Jr. of Mocksville NC, passed away peacefully at his home on March 15,
2023, after a short battle with Leukemia.
James was born on May 7, 1941, to Janet and James Elmer Peebles Sr. He graduated from Davie
County Training School in 1959. Continuing his education, he became a Barber School graduate
in 1964.
He enjoyed his career as a machinist and tool setter at Ingersoll Rand for 40 years. He started his
own business, James' Barber Shop which was one of the first black owned businesses in
Mocksville. He was a Sunday School Superintendent at Mt. Sinai AME Zion Church in Advance
NC, where he was a dedicated lifetime member. He served as a steward and a member of the
Senior Choir. James was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. James, affectionately known as
Bub, loved singing, music, and cars. He was a hardworking father, beloved husband, and friend
to all.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Cora M. Peebles; his sister Joann Clark and
brother Larry Peebles. He is survived by two sons: Darren J. Peebles (Carolyn), Darrell K.
Peebles (Tracy) and two daughters; three siblings, Mable Allen (WC), Blandelia McMoore,
Mozelle Key, and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and one great
grandchild.
We will celebrate his life with a memorial service on March 23, 2023. Family visitation will
begin at 1:00pm followed by the Memorial service at 1:30pm. The service will be held at Mt.
Sinai AME Zion Church, 488 Peoples Creek Rd, Advance NC 27006
