Henry Eugene York

1942 - 2024

Henry Eugene York, also known as Gene, of Greensboro, NC, 81, peacefully passed away on
January 31, 2024 from Esophageal Cancer. He was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War (army).
Born in Iredell County, NC, Gene is the son of the late Shirlie Clay York and Julia Earle Stroud.
He is survived by his wife Linda Lambert York, married 60 years, and son Brandon York
(Stephanie York) of Winston-Salem, NC. He had two sisters, late Earlene York, and late
Christine York. He adored his granddaughter Madeline York, also known as her nickname
Madeline Sue. After he left the army, he worked for Sears as a store manager, and then as a
district store manager of 40 catalog stores in several states. Later, he formed his own successful
commercial and residential cleaning business, “Clean Gene’s”. His favorite activity was fishing
with his friends and his son most of all. There was no home project big or small that he could not
handle, and he absolutely loved every second of it. He had the ability to make people laugh no
matter the circumstance, and left a mark on everybody he met. He was always available to lend a
helping hand to anyone he came across, and he never met a stranger. He was the definition of a
selfless, hardworking, seafood eating, family loving man. Celebration of life with close family
and friends will be held in the future. In terms of donations, the family asks that you make a
donation to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund.

Some say the true measure of a man is the legacy he leaves behind in his family. Gene was one of the finest men I had the privilege to know, and his loving family is proof of that. Such a fitting tribute to the wonderful person Gene was in his time with us here.

Mr Gene! Thank you for being a wonderful human but great neighbors to myself, parents and then me again when I came back to the neighborhood. You are a model of what and how we should treat people. I will always remember your beautiful front lawn, your riding around the neighborhood and seeing you head out to get your lottery tickets and some smokes. Say hey to my mom in your new home, I’m
Sure she is there waiting with a cake and a smile!
