Gay Lynn Holcomb Briggs
1947 - 2024
Gay Lynn Holcomb Briggs passed away peacefully Sunday, January 21 in her home. Born to late Annie Laurie Holcomb and Albert Holcomb on August 16, 1947 in Forsyth County, NC. Gay was preceded in death by her three older siblings, Francis Gough, JoAnn Phelps and Howard Holcomb. Gay graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelors in Education. While attending, she also met her future husband of nearly 53 years, John Dawson Briggs. Gay taught elementary school for several years before staying home with their two children and finally spending 17 years with Forsyth Technical Community College working within the library. Gay was an avid reader and loved her family dearly. She enjoyed trips to the beach, listening to the waves crash while sand was in between her toes. In later years she enjoyed traveling to Gilbert, AZ to visit her only grandchild Julien Bouvier LeRoux. Gay is survived by her loving husband John Dawson Briggs; son, Matthew John Briggs; daughter, Laurie Lynn LeRoux (Beau) and one grandson Julien Bouvier LeRoux. Gay was placed in her final resting place, Saturday February 3, 2024 under beautiful blue skies.
Gay was one of the nicest and most caring people I’ve ever met. I’ll never forget the late night grilled ham and cheeses and special stocking of Sunkist just for me (I think) many years ago. The world is diminished without her in it for sure.
