Donald John Gurley
1948 - 2024
Donald John Gurley, 75, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. Don was born June 18, 1948 in Baltimore, MD. He is survived by daughters Devin Gurley of Seattle, and Breanne Hatcher, son-in-law Kevin Hatcher, grandchildren Avery, Grayson, and Alice Hatcher of Winston-Salem, as well as siblings Rick, Mary Jo, Anne, Pat, and Jim, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Alice, and parents Howard and Marie Gurley.
Don was an amazing, devoted, and caring husband, father, and friend. He graduated from Mount St. Mary’s College in 1970, where he made many lifelong friends. He and Alice were married over 41 years, and raised their daughters in Reston, VA and Greensboro, NC. Don’s friendly, humorous, and kind nature helped him build a community wherever he was, as a neighbor, colleague, coach, friend, or later, resident at Davie Nursing and Rehab in Mocksville, NC. He will be dearly missed by all.
Don’s service will be held on Monday, February 26, 11am, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 862 Yadkinville Rd, Mocksville, NC. A memorial will be held on a future date at his final resting place in Fairfax, VA.
