Constance Billie Penland Kirkman
Billie Kirkman, 93, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on Monday, December 18, 2023. She
was born December 17, 1930, in Halifax County, North Carolina. She and her brother Johnny were taken
to the Methodist Children’s Home at a young age by their grandmother and then after several years
returned to live with their grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Henry; her son
David and her daughter Patty Reid (Randy); two brothers, Johnny and Larry, and a half sister Sheila. She
had four granddaughters she loved very much, Melissa, Amber, Rebecca and Melanie and eight great-
grandchildren, Gibson, Murdoch, Julianna, Blake, Corbin, Carter, Raelyn and Brennan. She was a lifelong
volunteer. She taught preschool Sunday School at Augsburg Lutheran Church for over 40 years with her
best friend, Alma; volunteered at ABCD preschool; delivered Meals on Wheels and worked with the
homeless shelter at Augsburg, just to name a few. She was a member of the Griffith Home Extension
Club for over 50 years. She was a member at Grace Lutheran Church at the time of her passing. She was
a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and made sure our home was full of love. There will be no
formal service. Donations in her memory can be made to Grace Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 1735,
Clemmons, NC 27012.

    Billie was a big part of my life, growing up, and I spend a lot of time at her house with Patty. I will always remember her cheerful attitude, smile and laughter. She will always live in my memories of fun, a happy childhood and great friendship.

    Mrs. Kirkman touched my life at a very early age in Sunday school at Augsburg. She was an always positive, cheerful and happy and made everything fun. Along with Mrs. Hayworth, I learn so much about Jesus … I’m confident she is with him now!
