Jan. 11th, 1947 – April 13th, 2022
Donnie Brewer, 75, of Winston-Salem, NC, went home to be with the Lord on April 13th, 2022.
Donnie was preceded in death by his loving parents Roy and Lorine Brewer, and his brother, Tommy Brewer, all of Winston-Salem, NC.
Donnie is survived by his wife, Trudy, his daughter, Lela, and his grandson, Weston. He is also survived by his former wife, and dear friend, Juanita. His nephew, Jeff (Jennifer), and great niece Gabby. His niece Holli (Steven), and great nephews Garrett and Dillon. His stepson Greg, and granddaughter Rowan. His cousins Jerry, Ray (Suzanne), Joan (Terry), Ellen (Gary), Melisa (Glenn), and other cousins and family who will miss him dearly.
Donnie served in the United States Army from 1966-1972. He worked at Stroh Brewery for 30 years, and retired from the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Department, where he served as a detention officer from 2001-2009.
Donnie loved his family well. He was a wonderful husband, dad, and Poppy. He was the kind of man that people wanted to call friend, because he knew what it meant to be a friend. Donnie was the kind of dad, and granddad who was always there…encouraging, loving, forgiving, and an incredible role model. Most of all, he loved Jesus.
Donnie coached women’s softball, and girl’s little league fast pitch softball for many years. He loved riding motorcycles with his wife and friends. Donnie loved the coast, fishing, horses, rescuing animals, and for the last several years, he raised honeybees. His honey customers often called him “The Bee Man.” If he wasn’t outdoors enjoying his bees, he was “piddlin” on his tractor, or anything that he could find to get into. If all else failed, he would be found in his den, watching a good ‘ol western, The Andy Griffith Show, or fast pitch softball.
He was one of a kind, and those who loved him, are better because of the love he gave.
There will be a memorial service, with a celebration of life to follow, starting at 3:00pm, on Friday, April 22nd, 2022, at First Baptist Church Of Pilot Mountain. Flowers may be sent to the church on Thursday 4/21/22 and Friday, 4/22/22, between 9:00am, and 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Donnie’s name to First Baptist Church Of Pilot Mountain, or Animal C.A.R.E Foundation of Winston-Salem.
Donnie was such a kind and gentle man. I have very fond memories of him and he surely will be missed.
Donnie was a great man. We had many great times together; Riding horses, playing softball and just hanging out. I love you Donnie and I know we will meet again one day in heaven.
Don was a good man , a brother who had your back on the job or on the road. We had many a laughs together and he’ll be missed. Ride on.

I met Donnie when I went to work at Stroh’s Brewery and after just a very short time the guys told me that they knew someone else that road a Harley as well. And soon afterwards I was working and this guy came up to me I will never forget that day I remember his voice sounded genuine and he asked me if I road a Harley so I responded I sure do so at that magical moment a friendship of a lifetime began. So Donnie and his wife Trudy, me and my wife Brenda began making everlasting memories of a lifetime most of those on two wheels. We road every weekend in the mountains. We all loved our time together riding the most incredibly challenging and absolutely beautiful scenic backroads east of the Mississippi. Our week long vacations for many years were spent together riding Harleys in those settings. Most of our rides was 8-10 hours a day every time we would go riding it was the most incredible times spent together the laughter never stopped. Donnie’s heart was always in the right place. Brenda and I needed to have a chain link fence installed around our back yard but to have a fence company do it far exceeded our budget. So Donnie heard us talking about the need and stepped right up and said for us to get the fencing materials and he would help us. But we told Donnie we knew nothing about chain link fencing he told us he did and he would be glad to help us and teach us how it was done. So after couple of extremely hot summer weekends later the half acre of fencing was completed. Donnie was a man of honesty, integrity, always there if we ever needed anything. Donnie loved his family dearly I remember when we were riding he would always call and check on Lela she was always in his heart and on his mind. As our friendship continued to grow through the years Donnie became the best friend I could ever have and what a blessing it has been. Donnie was a friend I would trust my life with a never think twice about doing so. Donnie’s honesty, integrity, sincerity, and un-selfishness always ready to help a friend was/is unapparelled. Brenda and I will always have Donnie in our hearts and forever continue to relive all those wonderful times all his laughter and smiles. Donnie we love ya and will always have remembrance of our incredible friendship and time in the wind.

I have known Donnie for about 60 years, beginning in high school. He was a sweet person and was raised by a wonderful Mom and Dad. Donnie was so good natured and just a pleasure to spend time with. His passingg came as a tremendous shock to me and I will miss just knowing he was there if I ever needed aqnything. My condolences to Trudy, Lela and Weston as well as the other members of Trudys’ family who loved him too. We have lost a dear person.
Having Donnie and Trudy as a neighbor for years has truly been a blessing.

He will be missed by me and the deer he feed. He made sure the deer got corn during the winter.
Words cannot take away the sadness you feel but a comfort to know we will see our family and friends again, they are in GOD’S care.
I fell in love with Donnie when we were teenagers and he has been the true love of my life. The many years we had together and the wonderful daughter and grandson we have along with all the happy memories will always be treasured. I have lost the love of my life and the BEST friend I could have. I will see you again in heaven.
Today, We lost a True Friend to ALL. To the ones that knew Donnie knows what I’m saying, Donnie never met a Stranger, He had a LOVE for ALL. Not only did he Love his Family and Friends he Loved his LORD. I can’t even start to describe all the things he done for Me, we laugh and cried together.He taught Me to have Respect and always treated Me like a Son. I Love and see You again Sir.♥️
Twenty four years ago we became neighbors with Donny and Trudy. We have come to know them better during these years and always knew Donny was a neighbor you could count on. His kindness toward our mother, also a neighbor, was greatly appreciated. We will miss seeing Donny on his tractor and around the yard always busy.

Today we are living in times when there is so much divisiveness relative to race/ethnicity, gender, religion, class status, and politics. However, some individuals rise above the things that divide us and Donnie was one of those individuals.
Donnie and I both worked at Schlitz Brewery Company (which later became Stroh Brewery Company), and we would often chat in the break room. However, unfortunately after Stroh’s closed, we didn’t keep in touch, and it wasn’t until years later when I took up beekeeping that our paths crossed again.
I was new to beekeeping and Donnie and his wife Trudy (both beekeepers) quickly became my mentors and good friends. We would sometimes talk about what we were doing (right or wrong) with our bees during the bee club meetings. I always enjoyed our time together when we met at the bee club and even realized how much we had in common as Army veterans.
Although I had to give up beekeeping (because of a reaction I had to bee stings) we still always kept in touch. From time to time we would even touch base via email on current events.
One thing I will always remember about Donnie was his love for Jesus which he showed by the way he lived. I am blessed to have known Donnie and pray for God’s comfort and peace for the family during this very difficult time.
Rest in Peace dear cousin. We have shared a lot of good memories. You will not be forgotten.
