Gwendolyn Denise Hamilton-Smith

1956 - 2022

Gwendolyn Denise Hamilton-Smith (Gwen) passed away on March 21, 2022 in her home after an extended period of illness. Gwen was a native of West Virginia and moved to NC in the mid 90’s. She was born on March 9th, 1956 to the late Charlie and Marie Smith. She attended Big Creek High School and was an active member of Little Zion Baptist Church in Bishop, W. Va. Gwen was a long-time employee at Brook Ridge Nursing Home before her health began to fail.

Gwen was proceeded in death by her husband, James Oliver Hamilton, sister, Kathy Julianne Smith, Grandmother, Erell Parker, and her favorite Uncle, Alphonso Parker.

Gwen leave to cherish her memories, two loving sons, James Cornelius Hamilton, Brando Hurt, both of WS, NC; grandsons: Trayvond Cornelius Dwight of Burlington, NC, Tyquan Cornelius of WS, NC; granddaughters: Teosha Cornelia, Terylea Cornelia, Tynasha Nicole, Brianna, Samaria Hurt; one great granddaughter, Issabella Denise, all of NC.

A special niece, DeeDee Dykes, who cared for her throughout her entire illness.

Her loving Sisters: Elder Diane Casey of Richmond, VA, Minister Gloria Smith, Jeanetta (Gil) Winters, Sharon Smith, Charlene Cundiff, all of NC.

Her loving Brothers: Kenneth Smith of Savannah, GA; Jerry Smith and Timothy (Alesha) Smith of Richmond, VA, Charles Smith of Charlotte, NC, Carl Smith of Winston Salem, NC.

Mother-in-law, Castella Dickerson of Keystone, WV.

Sister-in-laws: Rhonda Logan of Winston Salem, NC, Jacquelin Johnson of Columbus, OH, Patricia Clark of San Diego, CA, Arnetta Taylor of Princeton, WV.

A host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

    My Aunt Gwen is the one who taught me how to clean house.Thanks to her I can out clean a woman. She helped mold me into the man I am today. And she made the best Cole slaw I ever tasted. I will 4ever miss her.

    Aunt Gwen was always full of life. One of my favorite memories is the story about the raisins. Who else can make a story about some raisins sound so funny, but Aunt Gwen. She will be missed forever. Love you, R.I.P. Auntie!❤❤❤
