Martha Terry Pappas, 66, died peacefully on February 27, 2019 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House in Winston-Salem, NC. Martha was born in Durham, NC to Ella Smith Terry and the late David White Terry. A lifelong Moravian, Martha grew up in Winston-Salem, graduating from Parkland High School. In 1975, she graduated from St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, NC. After graduation, Martha returned to Winston-Salem where she met and married noted restaurateur Sam Pappas. In 1986, Martha and Sam were blessed with the birth of their beloved daughter Mary Catherine. After Sam's untimely death, Martha began what would be a long and happy career in early childhood education. Martha worked in childcare at Centenary United Methodist Church and later served as director of childcare at Clemmons Moravian Church for 14 years. At CMCCC, "Miss Martha" was loved by children, staff, and parents. Martha was predeceased by her husband Sam Pappas, her father David Terry, and special friend Thomas Craver. She is survived by her daughter Mary Catherine, her mother Ella Terry, her sister Lynne Misenheimer and husband Fred. She is also survived by nephews Jeffrey Misenheimer and wife Susan and Todd Misenheimer and wife Anna. In addition, Martha is fondly remembered by great niece Ashley and great-nephews John, Grayden, Benjamin, and Harrison. A celebration of life service and reception will be held at 2:00 PM, March 9 at Clemmons Moravian Church, 3535 Spangenberg Avenue, Clemmons, NC 27102. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests any memorial donations be made to Clemmons Moravian Church Childcare or the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
