Stephen Murphy Byrum
1975 - 2023
Stephen Murphy Byrum, 47, of Winston Salem, unexpectedly passed away on May 6, 2023, from a massive heart attack, while at home.
Stephen was born on July 17, 1975, in Greensboro, NC. Following his graduation from Southeast Guilford High School, Stephen went on to study at NC A&T State University on a football scholarship. After school, he started working as a heavy equipment operator at various companies.
Stephen is preceded in death by his grandparents, Roy and Marguerite Collins Booth, and his mother, Marylin Booth Byrum.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jodi Barkley; his son, Ryder Byrum, age 11 and daughter, Ivy Barkley, age 17, all of Winston Salem; father, Roger Byrum of Greensboro; sister, Melissa Chatman (John) and nephew Michael, of Asheboro.
He will also surely be missed by two very important mother figures, Maxine Barkley and Judy Moore, as well as many extended family and friends.
As per Stephens wishes, there will be no funeral service. A cookout will be arranged and announced on Facebook in mid-June.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations towards cremation and other expenses.

Stephen will be missed. We cared deeply for him and he was a good dad.
Stephen was such a good human being, he loved his family and was always a joy to be around.
