It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we announce the passing of Shirley Pope, 69 , of Kernersville, NC. Shirley was born on March 4, 1956 in Winston-Salem , NC to the late Grace Newsome Williams and Hubert W. Williams. A devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother, and a woman whose spirit ran as wild and free as the horses she loved to ride.
Shirley lived a life full of grit, grace, and heart. She was the kind of woman who poured herself into her family — always putting her loved ones first, always showing up, always giving everything she had. She was the rock of her home, the warm embrace at the end of a hard day, and the steady voice of wisdom and comfort to those lucky enough to call her Mom, Wife, Nana or Friend.
A proud Nurse, she spent decades caring for others with unmatched kindness and grace.
Her love story was one for the books — a partnership built on love, laughter, and adventure. Together, she and her beloved husband,Warren shared a life full of miles and memories, often with the wind in their faces as they rode side by side on their Harleys. Her passion for the open road matched the fire in her soul — fearless, bold, and full of life.
When she wasn’t on a motorcycle, she was in the saddle — riding horses with the grace of someone truly connected to the rhythm of nature. Her bond with animals was deep and intuitive, and horseback riding brought her peace, power, and joy. Whether on winding trails or open fields, she felt most herself in the freedom of the ride.
She also found comfort and happiness in life’s simple pleasures — a sunny day by the pool, a conversation shared over tea, or the laughter of her children and grandchildren. She taught us all what it means to love fiercely, live fully, and ride free.
Shirley is survived by her devoted husband Warren Lee Pope; her daughter Dawn Robertson and husband Mike; her son Jeremy Pope and wife April; grandchildren Alyssa Robertson , Hayden Pope ; and bother Jim Williams. A family who will forever carry her spirit in their hearts.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at Sedge Garden United Methodist Church of Kernersville.
Her journey may have ended here, but her legacy of love, strength, and freedom lives on in all who knew her.
