Sarah Denise Clark

1957 - 2026

Sarah Denise Clark, 68, of Asheville, North Carolina, passed away on March 18, 2026. Born on May 13, 1957, in Lenoir, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Jack Crump Clark and Peggy Rae Campbell.

Sarah lived a life defined by compassion, adventure, and deep connection to others. She dedicated many years to her career as a nurse, working in a variety of settings including Cape Fear Valley, as well as assignments in Hawaii, Florida, and in home health care. She was passionate about helping others and took pride in sharing her knowledge and experiences, always encouraging those entering the medical field to learn, grow, and lead with heart.

She was proud of her Native American heritage and stayed closely connected to her culture through powwows and community involvement. She helped organize different events, supported vendors, and helped prepare regalia, supporting others in honoring their traditions. She had a love for travel and adventure, including her fascination with the ocean, studying and even swimming with sharks. She also found her greatest happiness in the simple moments—especially cheering on her grandchildren from the sidelines, taking them gem mining, or making special trips for candy. She was known for her vibrant storytelling, her sense of humor, and her love of music, often playing Jimmy Buffett as loud as possible, even on the hardest days.

Sarah was a strong-willed and resilient woman who faced health challenges with unwavering positivity and determination. She never let fear stand in the way of living fully. Her kindness and generosity left a lasting impact on everyone she met—there was rarely a place she went where someone didn’t know her or have a story about how she had touched their life. To Sarah, family was everything, and she extended that love freely, turning friends into family wherever she went.

Above all, Sarah was a deeply loving and devoted mother. She was a constant source of strength, guidance, and unconditional love for her daughter, always showing up, standing strong, and leading by example. The bond she shared with her family was unbreakable, and the love she gave will continue to live on in all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter, Heather Alvarez, son-in-law, Pedro Alvarez; and her beloved grandchildren, Aaron and Aubry Alvarez; her siblings, Jack Clark and Judy Clark; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to SECU House in her honor.

Sarah’s legacy of love, strength, and fearless living will continue through all who knew and loved her.
