Robert John Mannion Sr.

1937 - 2024

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8

Bob went with the angels to his heavenly home on October 19, 2024 at the age of 87. He was born on February 2, 1937 in Monaca, PA to Edwin and Veda Mannion. He grew up in Youngstown, Ohio, served 7 years in the U.S. Army Reserve and spent 30 years at Packard Electric/General Motors in Warren, Ohio.

On December 1, 1973 he married the love of his life, Martha “Marty” Friedstrom. They settled in Ashtabula, Ohio where they raised their 5 children. The joys of his life were his children and grandchildren. He loved attending his children’s activities and taking family vacations. He enjoyed traveling on mission trips and hosting exchange students, refugee families and missionaries in their home. He was a member of Gateway Assembly of God for 35 years.

Bob and Marty spent their winters in Florida for 20 years. In 2012 they moved to Winston Salem, North Carolina and attended Winston Salem First A/G. Bob and Marty found a passion caring for street children in Uganda, Africa and for the past 10 years have led efforts to provide care for 60 children who called them “Mom and Dad”. In December of 2023 Bob and Marty celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary.

Bob will be dearly missed by his children Heidi (David) Smith of Knoxville, TN; Robert (Karen) Mannion Jr of Conneaut, OH; James (Gayle) Kaniclides of West Newbury, MA; Sarah (Ryan) Schiedel of Winston Salem, NC and by his grandchildren Amanda, Marissa, John, Jessica, Emily, Gavin, Melina, Ethan, Ella, Emma and Reed and his great grandchildren Wyatt, Jubilee and two due soon.

He was greeted in Heaven by his parents; his brothers Eugene, Edwin, and William; his daughter Robyn and his son Andrew Kaniclides.

A celebration of life for Bob will be scheduled at a later date in Ohio. Donations can be sent to Marty Mannion and will be used to support the children in Uganda.

The family would like to thank the caregivers and Trellis Hospice for their support during Bob’s last months.
