Paul R. Wark

1965 - 2025

Paul R. Wark, 59, of Midway, NC, put the pedal to the metal one last time on February 5, 2025, after a short illness. Though his race here was too brief, he lived every day—every lap—to the fullest, bringing joy, happiness, and laughter to those around him.

Born on April 1, 1965, in England to John “Ian” and Heather Wark, Paul’s journey took a turn across the pond at age six when his family moved to the U.S. From an early age, it was clear that Paul was a lot like his dad—witty, sharp, and wildly talented when it came to anything with an engine. From his mother, he inherited a humble heart and an appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. Sundays were often spent together, whether watching golf, game shows, or NASCAR, with Paul sneaking in a “snappy nap” during the race.

Paul took his time (a lot of time) before settling down, waiting until he met the perfect partner in crime. In 2014, surrounded by family and the friends who were like family, he married April Harper Wark by the ocean in Myrtle Beach—the very place their story began.

Paul never did anything at half speed. Whether he was tearing up the track, cracking a perfectly timed joke, or diving headfirst into a new project, he lived life in the fast lane. He checked off bucket-list dreams with the same energy he brought to the racetrack—attending a Minnesota Vikings game, Living the Dream behind the wheel of his #12 late model at Bristol Motor Speedway, and breathing new life into an old, rusted-out 1973 Firebird, transforming it into The Rise of the Phoenix. His journey with the restoration was shared through his Wark Racing – Rise of the Phoenix Facebook page, inspiring fellow car enthusiasts.

Paul had an eye for craftsmanship and a passion for speed. His ability to transform cars into rolling works of art set him apart, but it was his infectious energy, sharp wit, and boundless love for his people that truly made him unforgettable. He never let life slow him down, but he always made time for the ones he cared about.

Though the checkered flag has waved on Paul’s time here, his legacy will keep racing on in the memories of those who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife, April; his mother, Heather Wark; daughters Devan and Sophia; brother Derek Wark; sister Deborah Wark Vaughn (Kevin); two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; his chosen family in the racing world; and the newest member of his pit crew, his little fur baby, Layla. He reunites now with his father, John “Ian” Wark; daughter Sydney Fearrington; and his first beloved fur baby, Midge.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Paul’s incredible life at Midway Town Hall/Park on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at 1 p.m.

During my time as the announcer at Caraway Speedway I always enjoyed my conversations with Paul. I named him “Mr. Clean” well because he looked like him! He was a good driver and a great interview with a sharp wit. I know he loved April so much and all of his children. Truly one of my favorite people. All my prayers for April Sophia and all the =rest of the family and his many friends.

Wow, what do you say about Paul such an awesome dude easy to talk to love to live life and was just a solid person. I met Paul 10 years ago and we came became friends immediately and we both had the same love for recovery and for working on cars, being that both of us were body men.
