Ms. Martha Jane Persinger

Ms. Martha Jane Persinger, 88, passed away peacefully at Trinity Glen in Winston-Salem on January 29, 2026. She was born to the late Olen and Mary Persinger on Thursday, July 8, 1937 in Clifton Forge (Allegheny County)Va. In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her sister, Robin Paige Simpson, a brother in law, Chester “Chet” Simpson. Additionally, she was preceded in death by a very special cousin, Sally Hamrick Linville, and her daughter Penni Leigh Wheeler. She is survived by two nephews, Robert “Bill” Simpson (Rikki) and their son Spencer of La Mesa, CA, Scott Simpson (Kelley) and their daughter Delyla, of Portsmouth, VA. A niece, Rachel Wyatt (Greg) and their two children, a son and a daughter, of Crossville, TN. She is additionally survived by her “niece” Jenni Eller (Larry) and their children, Michael, Madyson, Aleiona, and grandson, Brexton, of Kernersville, NC. A “niece” Ronni Goff, her children, Brittani and G.C (Brittany) and her grandchildren, Raeleigh, Marleigh and Grayson of Forsyth County, NC. Additionally, she is survived by the children of Ms. Penni Wheeler, Hillari, her children, Aryella, Daron and DaMari, of Winston Salem. Elijah (Cailey) and their two children, Leighton and Hudson of Andrews, NC. Mikalynne (Shane) Wood of Walnut-Cove, NC.
Martha was a graduate of Allegheny High School in Covington VA. She went on to become an outstanding employee serving the United States Department of State for over fifty years. She was an avid Washington Redskins fan, who supported her team at all times. She also was a diehard fan of Dale Earnhardt Jr and Ty Gibbs who were both drivers for the NASCAR Cup Series. She was always excited to discuss anything related to her love for football, and racing. She always had the best stories about her career and the places she had been throughout her time in Washington. The family wishes to extend their deepest heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff who helped care for her at Walnut Ridge of Walnut Cove, NC. The staff at Trinity Glen of Winston-Salem, with a very special thank you to Tony in the Physical Therapy Department, who she thought the most of. In addition, thank you to all the staff of Trellis Supportive Care for the wonderful care during her time with Hospice this last week. We can’t thank you all enough, she loved you all for your kindness and compassion during the time she had with each of you.
