Miles Wayne Hildebrand

Miles Wayne Hildebrand, 85, died September 13th, 2024 at the VA Hospital in Durham, N.C. after a short battle with cancer. Mr. Hildebrand was born in Smithfield, N.C. to the late Miles B. Hildebrand and Harriet B. Hildebrand. After graduation from Smithfield High School Wayne served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific for two years then in Japan for two years. At the completion of his naval service he attended N.C. State College (now University). Wayne retired from McDowell County High School after a long career teaching. He was also licensed as an electrician and locksmith and could fix almost anything.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his brother, Samuel Thomas Hildebrand, his sister Katherine Hildebrand Cockerham and niece Kristina Horton. Surviving is his sister Patricia Hildebrand Horton (Fred), nephew Joseph Horton and great niece Sya. He is also survived by brother in law John F Cockerham, niece Heather C. Sheets (Scott) and nephew Travis Cockerham.

At Wayne’s request there will be no service but his ashes will be scattered in his beloved North Carolina mountains.
