Mary Blevins
1928 - 2025
Mary Blevins, 96, of Winston-Salem, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, May 7, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
She was a wonderful wife, mom, and mammaw to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She was born to Thomas Elsworth and Myrtle McCollum Clifton in Winston-Salem. She married W. Marshall Blevins in 1947, and they were married for 48 years until his passing in 1995. They were both employed with Western Electric and retired from there in 1981 and 1986. After retirement they spent a lot of time in Beaufort, NC; fishing and enjoying visits from family and friends.
Mary was blessed with three children, Brenda B. Anderson, Carol S. Leonard, and Ronald “Smokey” Blevins; six grandchildren, WM “Bo” Bowen (Kim), Marty Bowen (Sharon), Todd Blevins, Lori Adkins, Bryan Sapp (Sandra), and Summer Johnson; twelve great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. She was so proud of them and loved them unconditionally, always. She is also survived by her sister, Pat Aaron (John); brothers, Leon Clifton (Evonne) and James Clifton (Dessie); sister-in-law, Janice Clifton; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she dearly loved.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol S. Leonard; great-grandson, Dustin Bowen; sister, Betty Fowler; brothers, Douglas, Eugene, Frank, Carlos, and Steve Clifton.
Foremost in her life was worshiping her precious God Jehovah and witnessing to others about his grand purpose for the future. She was a wonderful cook, seamstress, and gardener. We have many fond memories of spending time with her at Beaufort. She could filet fish, then fry them and make the BEST hushpuppies and slaw. She always loved having a crowd to eat and visit. Anyone who knew her, loved her, and she will never be forgotten. All of her friends and family will miss her every day. She was loved by them deeply.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at the Kernersville Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on West Mountain Steet, Kernersville, NC.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mary’s memory may be directed to a charity of one’s choice.
