Mark S. Rose, Jr

1935 - 2025

Mark S. Rose, Jr., 90, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Forsyth Medical Center.

Born on January 10, 1935, in Asheville, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Mark S. Rose, Sr. and the late Florence Lewis Rose.

Mark graduated from Gray High School in Winston-Salem in the class of 1954. While in high school, he was a proud captain of the football team and was able to play with his team in the state championship game. After graduating high school, he furthered his education at High Point College, graduating in 1958. From there his educational journey continued at Emory University- Candler School of Theology, graduating in 1962; and then later at Wake Forest University, where he obtained his masters degree in counseling.

On September 5, 1959, Mark married the love of his life, Gail Whittington Rose. They were blessed to spend 66 wonderful years together. While on their journey together they created a beautiful family, and above all else, he cherished spending time and creating new memories with his family. He spent many years as a minister for the United Methodist Church, and later he worked as a counselor in his own private practice.

Throughout his lifetime, he developed skills in carpentry and building. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying camping, hunting, fishing, and boating. Mark also loved to travel, he had the opportunity to visit Alaska, Scotland, and the Bahamas. He was always looking for ways to serve others, and completed his last missions trip when he was 88 years old.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Charmione, Betty Lou, and James.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Gail Rose; children, Mark Steven Rose, Laura Gail Rose (Lynn Rose), David Drewery Rose (Consuelo Rose), and Derrick Eugene Rose (Jennifer Thill-Rose); grandchildren, Steven Rose (Hollis), Ben Rose (Lilly), Patrick Rose, Michael Murillo (Blue), Lilly Murillo, Noah Rose, Jonah Rose, Shelbilyn Boelsche, and Mary Boelsche; and great-grandchildren, Sila and Collin.

A celebration of Mark’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Maple Springs United Methodist Church, 2569 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem, NC. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Maple Springs United Methodist Church, Attn: Missions Fund, 2569 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem, NC.
