Lee Anne Morgan

1955 - 2024

Lee Anne Morgan, 68, died on July 23, 2024 following an extended period of ill health. She was born in Winston-Salem on September 23, 1955, the third of five children of Alton Carroll and Florence Wright Morgan. She married to Terry Collins in 1995, and they remained married until her death. He brought love, joy, and kindness to her life and took great care of her while she was sick.

She graduated in the 1973 50th graduating class from R. J. Reynolds High School, where she was in the Band and Drama Club. She earned a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Salem College in 1978 and Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Texas at Austin in 1985.

She was associated with The Little Theater of Winston-Salem for 25 years, first as a volunteer, then as member of the staff. She worked in almost every discipline in the Theater, both onstage and backstage, but was best known for stage managing and musical direction.

She was an Adjunct Instructor of Voice at both Salem College and Wake Forest University and taught voice lessons in her home studio for many years. She performed around the state, primarily with Carolina Baroque in Salisbury, but also as guest soloist with a number of area choral groups.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where she was the alto section leader for the Choir for nearly 30 years.

She is survived by her husband, Terry Collins, two sisters, Karlynn Morgan and Cindy Morgan, and two sisters-in-laws, Karen Morgan and Ruth Morgan, and three nephews, Joe Morgan and Will and Rob Bertram. She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers Sam Morgan, David Morgan, and by her niece, Karlynn Bertram.

Lee was truly a diva in her love of music – a talented and wonderful musician, enjoyed and loved by many. The choir especially will miss her voice, her abundant personality and her dedicated support.

She was fabulous gourmet cook with many memorable crowded gatherings and holidays, always with great food and equally great sense of humor. Lee was a beloved member of the Monday Night Girls, a small dinner and friendship group that lasted many years and turned into family. Men were occasionally invited as “honorary girls”.

She loved Terry, the beach and her many kitties. And she was loved by her community.

A Memorial Service to be announced.
