Katie Evans Shockley
1938 - 2026
Katie Evans Shockley, age 87, passed away on April 3, 2026. Born on December 1, 1938, in Yadkin County, Katie was the beloved daughter of Hubert and Ila Evans.
Katie shared 62 wonderful years of marriage with the love of her life, Homer Shockley. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose life was centered around faith, family, and home. In addition to raising her own family, Katie lovingly helped raise her sister’s daughter, Marilyn Pyles, whom she always considered a daughter in her heart.
She is survived by her daughter, Tracie Shockley Southern (Ronnie); three grandsons, Richard Conrad of Winston-Salem, Allen Conrad of Washington DC, and Andrew Southern of Rural Hall; and three honorary grandchildren, Shannon Stanley, Jody Pyles (Carrie), and Joel Pyles (Amanda).
Katie worked faithfully throughout her life, beginning at Hanes Hosiery and Dewey’s Bakery, before retiring in 2000 from Ilso Unican. She took pride in her work and the many friendships she formed along the way.
Nothing brought Katie more joy than spending time with her family and tending to her yard. With Richard, Allen, Shannon, Jody and Joel grown, for the last 19 years, her world lovingly revolved around her youngest grandson Andrew. He was her buddy, her pride and joy. She fondly referred to herself as his “meals on wheels.” If he didn’t like what was on the supper table, all he had to do was call his Nana, and she would happily deliver whatever his heart desired.
In addition to her husband, Homer, Katie was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Ila Evans; her brothers, Bob, Gerald, Edward, Allen, and Wilbur Evans; her sister, Frankie Blackburn; and her honorary daughter, Marilyn Pyles.
Katie will be remembered for her generous heart, unwavering love for her family, and the warmth she brought into every home she entered. Her legacy of love, service, and devotion will continue to live on in the lives of all who knew and loved her.
