Joanne Riggs Lomax

1939 - 2025

Joanne Riggs Lomax, 86, loving mother and wife, passed away on October 20,2025 at the nursing facility she was staying at in Trinity NC.

Mrs. Lomax was born on June 18, 1939, in Surry County. Eldest daughter of Jessie Merline and Pearle Magaleen Brindle Riggs.  She lived in Surry Couty until the age of 12 when she and her parents moved to High Point after the death of her little brother Jasper Wade. She graduated from Allen Jay High School with high honors as Valedictorian and received a scholarship for college.  On June 21st, 1957, she married her high school sweetheart and      the love of her life James D Lomax.  A few years later, they adopted their beautiful baby girl Amy Jo Lomax.  Joanne was always a banker and retired from Wachovia bank as the VP of Financing. She was a devout Christian, who loved the Lord and her Church, Oak Forest Methodist Church where she was a member and she and her husband volunteered with various activities such as meals on wheels.  She loved watching sports with her husband and cooking for him. But mostly she loved her family and caregiving for anyone of her family or friends who needed her. Proceeded in death was her husband James D Lomax who passed on March 10, 2018, their daughter Amy Jo Lomax who passed away on July 20, 2020, and brother Jasper Wade who passed in October 1951.

Surviving are her sisters Judy Guyer and her husband Robert, Susan Smith and her husband Michael.  2 nieces Christina Cline and her husband Benji and Stephanie Smith and Matt.  1 Nephew Michael Smith II and his wife Jenny.  4 Grand nephews Ben Cline and wife Marion, Conner Smith, Dylan Smith and Levi Springer.  1 Great Grandnephew Carson Cline and 1 great grandniece Emsleigh Cline.

A celebration of life will be held on November 3rd at 11 am at Oak Forest United Methodist church, 11461 Old US Highway 52, Winston Salem NC 27107 with Pastor Dwight Cartner officiating.  Visitation will follow the service in the Family Life Center. In lieu of flowers donations to the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation would be appreciated.
