
James "Jim" Burton Parent
1930 - 2025
James (Jim) Burton Parent passed away peacefully, following a brief illness, on March
28, 2025 in Winston-Salem, NC. He was 94 years old.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 22, 1930, Jim was the first child of Burton Lee
Parent and Agnes Huttinger Parent. Graduating from St. Ignatius High School in 1948
and then serving in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1950 to 1952, he was a radio technician
stationed in Guam during the Korean War. It was there that he developed his skills to
prepare for his career in the electronics industry. Jim enjoyed music, golf, cars and
motorhome travel on the open road.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Maureen of Winston-Salem, NC and his brother Tom
Parent (Michele) of Naperville, IL. He is also survived by his five children: Kathy
Johnson of Strongsville, OH, Sue Shirkman of Mokena, IL, Jack Parent (Anna) of The
Woodlands, TX, Jeanne Pillon (Mark) of Louisville, OH and Bob Parent (Cathy) of
Winston-Salem, NC along with 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Leesburg, Florida.
The family extends their gratitude to the dedicated caregivers of Lizz’s Compassionate
Angels Home Care and the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home of Winston-Salem.
The family invites those who wish to express sympathy to donate to either of the
following organizations in memory of Jim Parent: Riverwood Therapeutic Riding Center,
Inc. (Tobaccoville, NC), Kate B Reynolds Hospice Home (Winston-Salem, NC).
