Gwendolyn Anne Elliott

1938 - 2025

We lovingly remember Gwendolyn Anne Elliott, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 29, 2025, in Rural Hall, North Carolina. She lived a life of grace, dignity, unwavering faith, and spiritual devotion. Gwen was born in Stamford, Connecticut, on August 6, 1938, to Nathaniel Whitfield. and Magnolia Amanda Midgette, she was the third of four children. A bright and thoughtful student, Gwen once dreamed of becoming a journalist. While her career path eventually led elsewhere, her passion for learning and communication never faded. A pivotal moment in Gwen’s life came about fifty years ago on April 10th, 1975, when–with deep love for Jehovah–she symbolized her dedication to Him. From that moment forward, her greatest joy was found in teaching others about her faith— beginning with her own children and grandchildren. Gwen remained devoted to her ministry throughout her life. Even in recent years, as her health declined, she continued to participate actively through telephone witnessing and Bible studies, always supported by Jehovah’s holy spirit, her family, and extended spiritual family. Gwen never allowed illness to define her. T hough her physical strength waned, her spiritual resolve never faltered. She looked forward with unwavering hope to the fulfillment of Jehovah God’s promises and longed to witness the great tribulation and its aftermath–a hope that strengthened her each day.

The love and steadfast support of Jehovah’s holy spirit, her family and extended spiritual family–too numerous to name—carried her through life’s most difficult times. Their prayers and companionship meant the world to her and now bring comfort to those she leaves behind. Gwen received her education through the Stamford Public School System. Early in her professional career, she worked with the State of Connecticut Day Care Mini Center before beginning a 27-year career with the State of Connecticut Department of Social Services Governor’s Office, retiring from supervisory management with respect and admiration.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Nathaniel Whitfield Midgette and Magnolia Amanda Jamison Midgette; her cherished siblings Blondell Skipworth, Mary E. Dixon and Nathaniel Midgette Jr.; her two beloved sons, Roger C. Midgette and Anthony R. Elliott; two sons in law, James Staley (Deirdre), and James Kaves (Michelle); one treasured grandson, Jean Jacques; three dear nephews, Ralph “Butchy” Watkins Jr., Alvin Watkins, and Kenneth “Teddy Bear” Watkins; and one loving niece, Beatrice “Bea” Watkins. Gwen leaves behind a legacy of enduring love and deep faith, carried on by her devoted children: daughters Deirdre E. Midgette-Staley of Winston-Salem, NC; Phyllis R. Edney-Curry (Daniel) of Rural Hall, NC; Melanie D. Elliott-Baldwin (Lorenzo) of Charlotte, NC; and Michelle A. Midgette-Kaves of Stamford, CT; and sons Michael T. Elliott of Bridgeport, CT and Phillip T. Elliott of Shelton, CT.

She is also survived by one beloved uncle, Edmond Jamison Jr. of Timmonsville, SC; and eleven adored grandchildren: Marlon Midgette, Stacey Midgette-Greene (Mark), Corey Midgette, Tanya Edney-Snuggs, Lloyd Grant Jr., Lucy Grant, Crystal Curry, James E. Dixon, Cynthia “Cindy” Skipworth-Brown, Rebecca “Becky” Skipworth—and four nephews: Anthony D. Dixon, Cornelius “Skippy” Skipworth Jr., Mark Midgette, and Christopher Midgette. Gwendolyn Anne Elliott had the joy of witnessing the growth of her family into future generations, including twenty-one great grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren, and a host of other beloved nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends whose lives were touched by her love, strength, and faith.

Growing up I have many memories, heck we lived so close and playing with my cousins pretty much every day at some point was such a blessing. She would always say Tony you be good lol.
