Daniel Ferebee Walker
1948 - 2025
Daniel Ferebee Walker, age 76, peacefully passed away on May 21, 2025, at the Willow Valley Rehabilitation Center in Winston-Salem. He was born on October 28, 1948. Daniel attended RJ Reynolds High School, where he distinguished himself as co-captain of the 1967 basketball team and enjoyed playing golf. Following graduation, he pursued higher education at UNC-Chapel Hill.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Harrison Walker and Evelyn Ferebee Walker, as well as his two brothers, Harrison “Dickie” Walker and Steve Walker.
Dan was empathetic and kind, and he could easily engage in conversation with anyone. He loved the ocean and sailed from the Panama Canal to Wrightsville Beach, NC, on a sailboat built by his brother. He loved talking sports, and as he became less able to get out much, he often texted his friends about the trials and tribulations of the Deacs and the Tar Heels. He always had a quick wit, and despite his physical limitations later in life, you could count on Dan for a laugh and a joke. He was an avid reader of books, and he enjoyed keeping up with current events.
He will be remembered fondly for his kindness to all who knew him. Daniel’s memory lives on in the hearts of his friends and all those whose lives he touched throughout his years. A special thank you to his lifetime friend, Gary Michalove, who made sure that Dan had the best care possible in his final days.
At Dan’s request, there will be no service.
