Beulah Johnson
1924 - 2024
Beulah (Bea) Bellomy Johnson, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on October 28th, 2024, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina after a brief illness.
Bea was born on February 12, 1924, in Mingo County West Virginia to Grace and Miles K. Bellomy and grew up in Fort Gay West Virginia. As a teenager, Bea moved to Washington DC and worked for a year before moving to Charlotte NC, where she met Paul Marcus Johnson Jr. in 1942. They were married January 18th, 1947. Paul and Beulah had two children, Paula Ann and David Michael prior to settling in Winston-Salem permanently. A third child, Gregory Todd came later. At the age of 57, Bea graduated with a LPN degree from Forsyth Tech and worked on the Labor and Delivery floor at Forsyth Hospital for 10 years before retiring.
Bea was very active in her church and was a steadfast Christian. The last 60 years of her life were dedicated to ‘doing the Lord’s work’ and her many Christian friends were very dear to her. After Paul passed away in 1985, Bea traveled a lot. Being baptized in the River Jordan and handing out bibles on streets in Russia are just a few examples of her journeys. In her later years, Bea enjoyed looking at pictures from her many travels.
Bea is survived by her daughter Paula, who took excellent care of her the last years of her life. She also leaves behind son Mike, his wife Brenda, and son Todd and his wife Becky, granddaughter Ashley Dunwoody and her husband Ryan, and great grandchildren Lucas and Naomi Dunwoody.
As we say goodbye to Bea, we celebrate the life of a woman who was a beacon of kindness and love. Her legacy is one of unwavering devotion to her family and church, a testament to the beautiful life she lived, and the countless lives she touched. Bea’s memory will be treasured forever, as we hold her close in our hearts and remember the light she brought into this world. The angels rejoiced as she entered the Kingdom of Heaven.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Wesleyan Church in Winston-Salem; date and time to be
announced.
