Betty Duncum Hackney

Betty Duncum Hackney, 91, passed away, April 4, 2026 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, NC.
She was born on July 12, 1934 in Knoxville, TN, the daughter of R. Frank Duncum and Veronica A. Duncum.
Betty graduated from Durham High School and attended Duke University. She served as a teaching assistant at Linkhorne Elementary School for 35 years, where her nurturing spirit left an indelible mark on students and colleagues.
She was an avid reader and a lifelong cross-stitcher, creating exquisite heirloom pieces that were treasured by all who received them.
Betty lived in Lynchburg, VA for over 45 years and recently relocated to North Carolina to be closer to her children. She is survived by her son, David Michael Hackney (Valeria Hackney) of Asheville, NC, daughter Elizabeth Hackney (Bryan Bogenberger) and beloved grandson Emmett Bogenberger of Winston-Salem, NC. She is also survived by her brother, R. Frank Duncum Jr. of Macon, GA, Laura J. Duncum of Lynchburg, VA and Jo Worthington of Downingtown, PA.
A celebration of Life will be held in Lynchburg, VA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that you consider a donation to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, NC, Triad Golden Retriever Rescue or a charity of your choice.
