Arthur Lee Rhoades, Sr., passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 28, 2026, at the age of 84. He was a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, faithful friend, and a man who spent his life serving others.

Arthur was born on December 15, 1941, to Paul Clifford Rhoades Sr. and Ethel Gordon Rhoades in Forsyth County. On March 11, 1961 he married the love of his life, Linda Sue Blakley. Together, Arthur and Linda built a beautiful life centered around family, faith, hard work, and a love for the outdoors. Their marriage was a testament to commitment, companionship, and the joy found in sharing life’s simple pleasures.

Arthur was a longtime and faithful member of Crestwood Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, where his faith and friendships were an important part of his life. He was also a man who believed in working hard and lending a helping hand. Throughout his career, Arthur worked at Hanes Dye and Finishing, Westinghouse (where he was the fire chief), and The Hyatt House Hotel. He also served his community as a volunteer fireman with Forest Hill Fire Department; giving his time to help protect and serve his neighbors

Those who knew Arthur will remember him as a man who was happiest when he was doing something for someone else. He could often be found in his workshop, working with his hands and fixing almost anything, building, or creating something. Or he might be out on his tractor, ready to lend a hand to a neighbor, friend, or family member. Arthur never seemed to need much recognition for what he did. Helping people was simply who he was.

Arthur and Linda shared many wonderful adventures throughout their marriage. They loved camping, horseback riding, blue grass and country music, and dancing. Whether enjoying time outdoors, listening to a favorite country song, spending time with family, or simply working side by side, Arthur found his greatest happiness in the people and activities he loved.

Above all, Arthur cherished his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Linda Sue Rhoades; their three children, Arthur Lee “Buddy” Rhoades, Jr. (Angela), Debbie Rhoades Lunsford, and Cindy Rhoades Chimiak (Chris); and eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, who brought tremendous joy and pride to his life. He was preceded in death by his sister Mary Ann Rhoades Anders and brother Paul Rhoades, Jr.

Arthur leaves behind much more than memories. He leaves behind the lessons of a life well lived: love your family, work hard, help your neighbors, keep your faith, and never hesitate to lend a hand.

He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. His chair may be empty, his workshop may be quiet, and his tractor may sit still for a while, but the mark Arthur left on his family, his church, and his community will live on for generations.

Arthur’s life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and his love will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew him. A celebration of life will be held at Crestwood Baptist Church on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crestwood Baptist Church in memory of Arthur Rhoades during the celebration of life service on the 19^th.
