Sidney Witten Barrett
1949 - 2026
Sidney Witten Barrett, 77, formerly of Rochester, Michigan, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2026, in Winston‑Salem, North Carolina. Sid was a proud Army veteran, brilliant arborist and diagnostician who devoted his life to saving and caring for trees and was widely respected for his expertise. He was also acclaimed for his elegant landscape designs throughout Florida, which brought beauty and balance to many properties.
Sid is survived by his three sisters, Phyllis Ward, Donna Barrett and Ruth Barrett; his grandson, Andrew Barrett; his niece Kristen Miller, who was his primary caregiver for the last five years; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Phyllis Barrett; his brothers, Charlie (Sonny) Barrett and Douglas Barrett; and his daughter, Jennifer Barrett.
The service will be held on September 18 at 2:30 p.m. at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
Family and friends will remember Sid for his quick wit, mischievous sense of humor, lifelong love of practical jokes and larger-than-life personality, as well as the care he showed for both people and the natural world. Details for any additional gatherings will be shared by the family at the conclusion of his service.
