Gana Wayne Bostick, Sr.
1947 - 2026
On the evening of Thursday, August 27, 2026, Gana Wayne Bostick, Sr., 78, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, passed away due to natural causes at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center. He was surrounded by his family’s love when he passed.
Wayne is preceded in death by his father, Gana Franklin Bostick, Jr., and mother, Mary Madeline Higgins Cox. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Rebecca “Becki” Wooten Bostick of the home; son, Gana Wayne Bostick, Jr. (Julie) of Clemmons; daughters, Leslie Murphy (Gary) of Kings Mountain; Stacy Williamson of Grovetown, Georgia; Sherry Walker of Lenoir; several beloved grandchildren; and many dear friends.
Born on November 4, 1947, in Winston-Salem, Wayne was a Specialist Fifth Grade combat Army veteran of the Vietnam War. A member of Company B, 2nd Battalion, 39th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division, he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal for his service. After an honorable discharge and serving four additional years in the Army Reserves, Wayne went on to work for 40 years as a machinist for Champion Industries. After retirement, he worked part-time at Colfax Gun and Ammo.
Along with being an expert marksman and firearms hobbyist, Wayne was an avid golfer for much of his life. It was a joke among his wife and daughters when they went on beach trips that he left to play golf when the sun rose and came back after it set. Wayne was also a skilled handyman, seemingly able to install or repair virtually anything. His eldest daughter learned about car repair at his side.
A member of The Summit Church in Kernersville, Wayne will be remembered as a man of faith, a gentle spirit, and a generous heart. He was truly a remarkable man who will be missed beyond measure.
A celebration of Wayne’s life will take place on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at Sedge Garden United Methodist Church at 794 Sedge Garden Road in Kernersville. The family invites all who knew and loved Wayne to attend and share favorite memories, fellowship, and food.
It was sad news to hear of Wayne’s passing. The lines ‘gentle spirit’ and ‘generous heart’ are so true for him as well as funny. We all had some good times together over the years. The best memory was from the whole gang being together at the beach over New Years. (The year? I’m not good with dates) Becki, remember the rhyming time we had with words that ended in -ator ? I’ve told that story so many times! We’ll be thinking of you and your family. Rest in peace, Wayne.
