William “Scott” Hulten

September 1950—May 2026

William Scott Hulten was born with a song in his heart and transitioned out of this life surrounded by love and his music after a battle with ALS.

The son of A.P. Hulten and Patrice (Brashears) Hulten, he traveled the world as a Navy brat before joining the Air Force during Vietnam. He loved seeing the world and learning about other cultures.

Having moved frequently growing up, he learned early on that humor was a great way to make quick friends. His humor along with his love for music and family were personal characteristics that defined his life and were so endearing to others.

Scott also loved history. His second career was as a history teacher. He loved supporting and encouraging his students to work hard and aim high to meet their own aspirations. One of his favorite quotes he loved to share was, “Argue for your limitations and surely they are yours.”

This became more of a motto he lived by as he dealt with several health challenges in the last decade, including ALS. He aimed to keep a positive outlook and would always prioritize making those around him, including his care team, feel comfortable, appreciated, and hopefully enjoy some laughs.

Scott is preceded in death by his parents and survived by his wife, Karen, two daughters (Alexandra and Mikayla) and their families, his older brother (Michael), and younger siblings (Chris and Patrice).
