Jose “Cheo” Ramon Ortiz
April 30, 1957 – May 21, 2026
Jose “Cheo” Ramon Ortiz, 69, of Kernersville, formerly of New York, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2026.
Jose, lovingly known as “Cheo”, was born at home in Palmarito, Puerto Rico on April 30, 1957 to Ramon and Antonia.
Cheo started his life as the youngest of 12 children. He was the baby of the family, a fact his sisters never let him forget. He moved to New York in the late 1970s where he later met his wife Lucy. They enjoyed over 45 years together and share three sons, three daughter-in-laws and eight grandchildren.
Cheo was an incredibly hardworking man who was passionate about landscaping. Even after his retirement, he took great pride in maintaining the best yard in the neighborhood. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and relished in watching every game, win or lose, over the many years. He was chronically unserious and always had a joke ready to go no matter the situation. Laughter filled every room he was in. Most of all, Cheo loved his family deeply. He prided himself on being the absolute best husband, father and grandfather. He will be profoundly missed.
Cheo is survived by his wife Lucy, his sons: Jose (Laura), Jesse (Ashley), Jacob (Erica) and grandchildren: Olivia, Alexander, Quentin, Lincoln, Nora, Justin and Wyatt, and many other beloved family and friends.
Cheo was preceded in death by his parents “Monchito” and “Tonita”, brothers; Juan and “Gago”, Sisters; Paquita, Lucy, Mercedes and Chari and grandson Gavin.

I have known jose for a year or more, I could tell from every time we spoke he was a beautiful soul. I could also tell he was very much loved. I could see the love for each other every time I seen Jose and Lucy together you could feel the presence of love. I am deeply saddened at this loss of a beautiful soul, but I smile knowing he is now in God’s arms, God’s choir, singing praises, no more pain , rest in peace my friend.
