He was raised in Yadkin county to Leewood & Juanita Wagoner Steelman. Jerry graduated from Forbush High School in 1971 before joining the United States Army. A proud veteran, Jerry served 10 years in the Army, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant before his retirement. He served as a MEDEVAC in South Korea and went on to also serve in Germany as well. While serving his country, he earned the prestigious Expert Field Medical Badge 2nd to None in 1975, was apart of the Black Lions 3rd Battalion 28th infantry in 1979, and received The US Army Achievement Medal in 1981 before retiring. Jerry was proud to have done his duty to help defend the freedom of citizens across this country.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Larry Lee & Ricky Dale Steelman, a brother in law Larry Hall, and a nephew Robert Kent. He is survived by his loving wife Patty Parrish, sons Brock (Layla) Parrish, Cory Parrish & Shawn Steelman, a daughter Rebecca Tilley. His grandchildren, Andrew Hutchens, Drake Whitehead, Brianna Whitehead, Dakota Evans, Willow Parrish and Briggston Parrish, his great-grandchildren, Ethan Hutchens & Ryker Hutchens. He also leaves behind a sister Linda Kent-Hall, brother Roger Wayne (Mario) Steelman and nephews Mitch, Randy & Richard.
His service will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2026 1:30 pm at Deep Creek Baptist Church and immediately following the family would love to fellowship downstairs in the fellowship hall.
