Arville "Evon" Gentry

1929 - 2026

Arville “Evon” Gentry, a longtime resident of North Carolina, passed away on February 16, 2026, in Winston-Salem. Born on July 19, 1929, in Jonesville, North Carolina, he lived a life marked by dedication to family, hard work, and the enjoyment of simple pleasures.

 Evon was the beloved husband of Dell Gentry and the cherished father of Cindy Wiles. His family circle extended to his granddaughters Tricia Norrell (Curtis Morrison) and Julie Richardson (Alex Richardson), as well as his great-grandchildren Cain Black, Brynn Black, and Lexie Richardson. He is also remembered by his daughter-in-law Shirley Gentry and his brother George Gentry and wife Gerry Gentry.  The bonds he shared with each member of his family were deeply valued throughout his life.

 He was preceded in death by his parents Tyra & Alva Gentry; son Steve Gentry; grandson Stevie Gentry; brothers James Robert Gentry and Billy Joe Gentry; sisters Loretta Binkley, Clara Tuttle, Laura Jean Beamer, and Mary Lou Edward’s; and son-in-law Greg Wiles. Their memories remained close to Evon’s heart.

 Evon’s professional life was defined by steadfast commitment. He retired from Pepsi Cola after an impressive 35 years of service. His work ethic and loyalty left a lasting impression on those who knew him through his career.

 Outside of work, Evon found joy in a variety of hobbies that brought him closer to nature and the world around him. He enjoyed fishing at the coast—a pastime that offered both relaxation and adventure. He also enjoyed listening to Hank Williams, Sr. and other Classic Country Music, NASCAR racing was another passion that filled many weekends with excitement. Bird watching allowed him moments of quiet observation and appreciation for wildlife, while gardening gave him the opportunity to nurture growth and beauty at home.

 Throughout his long life, Evon touched many with his presence—whether through family gatherings, shared interests, or everyday kindnesses. His legacy endures in the lives of those who loved him and in the memories they hold dear.

 May Arville “Evon” Gentry’s memory bring comfort to all who knew him.

    He was an Amazing Gracious man and will surely be missed by many. He is now Reunited many loved ones. He lived a Full 96 Years and will continue to watch over his Wife, Daughter, Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.

    It was both a privilege and a joy to have known Evon since I moved to Country Club Pointe 15 years ago. He was such a friendly neighbor, always with a smile and ready for a visit…..offering his chair on many afternoons as we watched sunsets from his garage.

    Love to all of his extended family. I will certainly miss him.

    I’ll always remember how proud Tricia was of Evon and the way he showed up for her and the kids. His devotion to his family is evident in what kind and good people Cain and Brynn are. I hope you all find comfort in knowing he lived a full and beautiful 96 years. I love you all so much and you are in my thoughts and prayers. I am so sorry for your loss.

    Papa was like a grandparent to me , being best friends with his great granddaughter since we were kids ,He was always so sweet and caring and treated me like I was apart of the family and I will forever be so grateful and honored to have had his presence in my life <3 My love and prayers are with all of his family , his love and and presence will forever be missed 🤍
