Rickey Ellwood Petree

1951 - 2025

Rickey Ellwood Petree, of Statesville, North Carolina, 74, passed away on April 9, 2025, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina following a sudden decline in health. Born on January 23, 1951, in Canton, Ohio, Rick lived a life marked by service, devotion to family, and a deep love for the outdoors.

A proud Vietnam veteran, Rick served his country as a Flight Engineer with the 243rd Assault Support Helicopter Company (ASHC). His time in the military was a defining chapter of his life—one that reflected his courage and commitment to duty.

Rick’s passion for fishing was legendary among those who knew him. Whether it was early mornings on the lake or quiet afternoons casting lines from his boat, he found peace and happiness in nature. Affectionately nicknamed “Inoah Spot,” Rick had an uncanny ability to find the perfect fishing holes—an art he perfected over years of dedication to the sport. For Rick, fishing wasn’t just a hobby; it was a way of life that connected him to the world around him and brought him closer to those he loved.

He is remembered not only for his love of the water but also for the warmth he brought into every room. Rick’s legacy lives on through the memories shared by family and friends who were fortunate enough to know his kindness, humor, and steadfast presence.

Rick is survived by his loving wife, Lois, his daughter Kelly, his son-in-law, Richard and his granddaughter, Grace all of the home.

He is also survived by his siblings, Butch Petree, Ross Petree, Randy Petree and Linda Roher. As well as many step-children, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, William and Thelma Petree, his sisters Karen and Cheryl, and his brother Jon.

In keeping with Rick’s final wishes, he will be cremated and no services will be held. Rick did not want a lot of fanfare surrounding his death, and his family have chosen to honor that.

May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him and serve as a lasting reminder of a life well lived.
