Rose Marie Barksdale

1938 - 2025

Rose Marie Barksdale, affectionately known as “Sis”; a devoted mother, sister, and friend, peacefully departed this life on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at the age of 86. She was born to the late Henry Thomas Barksdale and Ethel Lucille Barksdale in Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina.

Rose was a proud graduate of Carver High School in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools system. Following high school, she attended Winston-Salem Teachers College before dedicating herself to her roles as a homemaker and wife. Later in life, she worked several years at RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company. Rose was also widely recognized for her exceptional catering services, providing private catering to Reynolda House and other local establishments. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond the kitchen as she cared for individuals of all ages in North Carolina and Virginia. Inspired by her caregiving work, she pursued nursing courses at Forsyth Technical Community College in the 1980s to become a licensed Nursing Aide.

Known for her open heart and loving nature, Rose touched countless lives with her kindness and warmth. She often expressed her love with the heartfelt phrase, “I love you,” and would lovingly add, “I love you more” to those who said it first. Her greatest joys included cooking for others, chatting with neighbors, caring for her grandchildren and bonus grandchildren, and enjoying family gatherings. Rose had a sharp sense of style and took pride in always being impeccably dressed, often saying with confidence, “Contrary to popular belief, I can dress.” She also cherished reading the Bible and reminiscing about the good old days.

Rose was preceded in death by her husband Everett Revels; her childhood sister , “Dot”; two brothers, Henry Thomas Barksdale Jr. and Albert Barksdale; an elder sister Alice B. Samuels; her son Everett Ravon Revels Sr.; and a nephew Kevin Barksdale.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her two daughters, Karen Denise Patterson and Deirdra Ann Revels of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren: Tuajuana L. Smoot-Hairston, Enicia Revels, Everett Revels Jr., and Rajean Revels of Winston-Salem; a bonus granddaughter Ronica S. McPhee (Aubrey) of Acworth, GA; seven great-grandchildren; three bonus great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; a devoted niece Ronda Barksdale and cousin Vickie Glenn and a host of cousins,
nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Rose Marie Barksdale will be remembered as a beacon of love, compassion, and generosity whose impact will be felt for generations to come.

The family wishes to acknowledge with sincere appreciation your visits, thoughts, calls, prayers, cards and all acts of kindness and love shown as our family continues to grieve the loss of our loved one. A special thank you to all Trellis Hospice Care Staff and Nurses. A small family gathering will take place at the Little Creek Recreation Center Shelter on Easter Sunday April 20 th .     My God given grandma. I say that because she adopted me as her own grandchild. Loved me and my family with all she had. She definitely had a lot of love to give. I know the Angels rejoiced receiving her. Rest is eternity Grandma Rose.

    My family and I have know her for many years! Rose Marie Barksdale was like a loving mother to my family and myself!
    We will miss her dearly! She had taken care of our kids as if they were her own!
    She was a person who has been loving, self sacrificing, attentive and had a very strong sense of family values!
