Dexter Locklear

Dexter Locklear, born on January 6, 1957, in Laurinburg, NC, passed away on February 10, 2025, in Thomasville, NC. He was a devoted husband to Regina Locklear, with whom he shared a loving marriage since February 21, 1992.

Dexter, affectionately known as Dex, Sunshine, Daddy Rabbit, Grandpa, and Papaw, was a skilled diesel mechanic, known for his talent in fixing things. His proudest accomplishments were his children and grandchildren, who were the center of his life. He is survived by his daughters, Heather McGuire (Patrick), Stephanie Griffin (Shawn), Anita Bueno (Brandon), and son Wade Locklear, along with his cherished grandchildren: Tommy McGuire, Alyssa McGuire (Thomas), Stephen Meritt (Kaitlin), Zachary Griffin, Christian Griffin, Shawnna Griffin, JJ, and Zuri.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Hollis “Buck” and Sina Locklear, and five siblings. Dexter enjoyed spending his free time collecting NASCAR memorabilia, mowing the lawn, grilling and relaxing in his favorite chair while watching shows like The Big Bang Theory and Yellowstone and of course Nascar. His love for chocolate and brats brought him joy, and he was never more at peace than when surrounded by his family.

Dexter Locklear will be remembered for his warm spirit, love for life, and unwavering dedication to his family. A celebration of Dexter’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 1,2025, at The Well Church, 906 Oaklawn Dr, Thomasville, NC.
