Connie Delaplane
1941 - 2025
Constance Bradley Delaplane, known to everyone as Connie, died at her retirement home on January 26, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Charlie. She is survived by her son Gary Alward (Robin) and step-daughter Katie Delaplane Harris (Eddy Hays) and many grandchildren. Connie was a wonderful wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and friend. She was known for her love of books and chocolate. She had a dry sense of humor and quick wit up until the very end. Connie lived a full life and will be missed by all who knew her.
Connie was born December 15, 1941 in Washington D.C.. She spent her childhood in Chicago and returned to Northern Virginia as a teenager where she lived most of her adult life. Connie attended William & Mary, graduating at age 20. She worked for the Department of Agriculture for almost 30 years. After she retired, Connie and Charlie went to work travelling the US and the world, visiting friends and family along the way. Connie loved making photo albums, carefully documenting her family’s history and her and Charlie’s adventures. Connie was a loving, supportive mother and grandmother. She and Charlie made many trips to visit their children and grandchildren and were amazing hosts when their kids came to visit them in Alexandria, Va. She made sure to pass on her love of reading, even if it meant mailing books to the other side of the world!
In 2021, Connie moved to Arbor Acres Retirement Community in Winston-Salem, NC to be near her son Gary and his family. Gary and Robin are so thankful that she was able to live close by for the last few years and are deeply appreciative of the care she received.
