Larry Douglas Morgan, Jr.
1964 - 2025
Doug Morgan went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 3:54 AM, after a courageous 16-month battle with cancer. Surrounded by his loving family, he earned his real wings and entered into eternity fully healed, whole, and at peace.
Doug is survived by his wife, Tina; his daughter, Taylor and son-in-law, Matthew; his son, Luke; his mother, Sue; and his brother, Rodney. He was an incredible husband, father, son, brother, and friend who made a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Doug had a lifelong love of flying and spent over 40 years as a pilot. He was passionate about aviation and passed that love on to his son, Luke. Despite opportunities to relocate for airline work, Doug was determined to keep his family in a stable and loving home, putting their needs first in everything he did.
Doug loved spending time with his family and created a life filled with beautiful memories. His favorite places were anywhere his family was, especially if they were at the lake or in Aruba.
Although his loss leaves a deep void, we take comfort in knowing he is with Jesus, fully healed and filled with joy. His faith, love, and determination to live life to the fullest will always inspire those who knew him.
A celebration of Doug’s life will be held on Monday, January 27th, at Two Cities Church at 1001 N Patterson Ave, Winston-Salem, NC. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:00 PM, followed by a service at 7:00 PM. We invite all who knew and loved him to join us in honoring his remarkable life and legacy. If you are one of Doug’s pilot friends, please wear your uniform in tribute to his passion for aviation.
Doug’s favorite charity was St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name would mean the world to him and his family.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Jeremiah 29:11
Tina & Doug were a beautiful couple that exuded energy for Jesus!
Tina, Taylor & Luke, I am deeply devastated for you all! Your father loved you very very much along with his wife, Tina! please accept my deepest sympathies and know there is no more suffering for Doug any longer. Throughout the years I have known him, it really seems like forever! Doug has had many battles to go through with Crohn’s and has pulled through them with flying colors! This time Jesus knew it was time for him to come home. I’m so happy that I finallly got to convince Doug to travel to Aruba “Our One happy island!! Also loving the fact that we both families have a piece of Aruba in our lives. Now his happy place will be in heaven with Jesus overlooking his beautiful family and watching out for them every day! Please know that no matter what you need our family is here for you all always!
Doug was one of my first best friends. We were only 5 years old but we stayed friends for the rest of our lives . He was a great man and man of God. I know he’s in heaven rejoicing with Jesus . He will be missed by all of us that knew and loved him dearly. RIP Sweet man and we’ll see you again someday soon. Holly Carpenter Roberts. 🙏
There are only a handful of people who has come into my life and made me want to be a better person. This family, Doug, Tina, Taylor, and Luke gave me inspiration to do better and be better. Thank you. I will always love and pray for you.
Although I did not know Doug, I did graduate with his precious mom and dad. I am so sad to learn of Doug passing to heaven. Prayers for all the family. He is so handsome. Love to the family.
We got to know Doug , Tina , Taylor & Luke at Humphrys Ridge Resort at Belews Lake , Stokesdale NC. We considered them our Belews Lake friends and our Humphreys Ridge Resort family . We met them at our Humphreys Ridge Sunday School. They were extremely nice folks and were well like by all at Humphreys Ridge Resort. Doug will be surly missed by his friends and piers. We were so grateful to be friends of theirs. Doug always had a contagious smile and such a great outlook on life. He had such a great attitude towards life and most of all , loved his family. You will surely be missed.
I met Doug once we started high school ! We had several classes together during the years ! One of my most treasured was Mr . Henry’s class ! We sat beside one another in his class ! We had the best time , picking on each other ! I will always remember those good times ! Rest easy , my dear friend ♥️
I experienced the love of Doug through the love of his children, Taylor and Luke. I’ve seen Doug’s character and kindness so clearly through the son and daughter he raised and their friendship towards me.
The moment I understood the depth Doug’s love for his children was the moment I saw him turn to see his daughter for the first time in her wedding dress. His joy was moving, and his emotions the overflow of a true father’s heart. It is an honor to know this family and now to continue to know Doug through them.
I’ve known Doug for most of my life. We were 6 years old when we first me while playing on the same T-Ball team. Both growing up in a small town in North Georgia and sharing a love for aviation our career path took different directions out of high school. Eventually, we both ended up working for the same airline that wasn’t even a thought in anyone mind back then (JetBlue). As many of us can say, it has been an honor to know Doug and call him my friend. Doug has worn a set of wings for most of his life. He now wears the most gracious wings of all time.
We are so sorry for your loss. Doug was an optimistic and positive person who always valued family and flying. He stayed optimistic and strong through the battle of his disease. He will be greatly missed.
I’ll always remember Doug’s big smile and vibrant personality. He was someone who would always listen and provide support and comfort when needed. I always enjoyed our trips together and viewed him as a role model for Captain upgrade. Thank you Doug for the years of friendship and may you now rest in peace. May God’s love provide peace and comfort. Tailwinds my friend.
So sorry for your loss. My thoughts & prayers are with the whole family.
Neighborhood friend of Taylor & Matthew.

We could not have asked for better neighbors. Gatherings in the cul de sac won’t be the same without you. You welcomed us from day one when we moved into our home. Doug – you will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with your entire family.
Love,
Clyde & Darlene
Tina, we are deeply saddened by Doug’s passing. We know it has been very difficult for you and the family. Our prayers continue for you and the family!
I remember when Doug was born and wrote his name and birth date in my Bible. His dad, Larry, was my first cousin that I grew up with in McCulley subdivision. Doug’s grandmother, Catherine Callahan Morgan, was my dad’s sister. My heart is broken for the Morgan family. You are in my thoughts and prayers today and in the coming days ahead. May our Father in Heaven be with each of you. My deepest condolences. Beverly Callahan Smith
