Francis “Dein” Van Sickle, 88, of Lexington, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Novant Forsyth Medical Center, in Winston Salem, NC. Born on May 26, 1936, in Flora, Illinois, Dein lived a full and rich life surrounded by the love of his family.
A kind and beloved son, father and grandfather, Dein is predeceased by his parents, Kenneth and Gertrude Van Sickle of Lexington, NC and survived by his loving wife, Sheila Van Sickle of Lexington, NC; his son, Andrew Van Sickle of Hickory, NC; his daughter, Suzan Van Sickle of Charlotte, NC; and his cherished grandchildren, Owen Van Sickle and Isabel Van Sickle both of Hickory, NC. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Dein was an avid outdoorsman with a lifelong passion for fishing and hunting. He found great joy in road trips to MLB spring training games and watching his grandson play baseball. Some of his fondest memories were made during trips to Canada with his son. A true baseball fan at heart, Dein’s love for the sport was matched only by his appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.
Dein was an avid reader who loved the local daily paper and could also be found tuned into CNBC following the stock tickers—pastimes that reflected his interest in the world around him.
Dein’s legacy is one of love, adventure, and dedication to family. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who shared in his journey.
