Lawrence Reece Henry III
December 2, 1962 – November 1, 2024
Lawrence Reece Henry III fell asleep in death peacefully at home in Winston-Salem, NC onNovember 1, 2024, at the age of 61. Lawrence was born December 2, 1962 in Okinawa, Japan to Lawrence Henry, Jr. and Alice (Vincent) Henry. He was the 2 nd of five children of the couple, including his older sister Jana Walker (husband Clarence, parents of Misty [Eric] Stout and Christopher Walker) of Virginia, younger twin brothers Kelly of Virginia and Tracy (deceased), and youngest brother Jeremy and his wife Rebecca, parents of Brandon (nephew), also of Virginia.
After moving to Winston-Salem, NC, Lawrence met and courted Sharon Kaye Berrier. They married on January 12, 1991 in Winston-Salem. As a loving and caring provider, friend and companion they enjoyed 32 years of married life together. Sharon recalls that she can never remember Lawrence raising his voice in anger to her, a beautiful tribute to his character as a husband. As a couple they had many friends with whom they enjoyed memorable times in spiritual pursuits, on vacation and in local activities.
Lawrence was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on December 2, 1989. His spiritual life was reflected in his love of others that moved him to share the Bible’s message of hope and comfort through his final days. He looked for opportunities to be of service to others, especially when his health allowed him greater activity. Many indeed will remember his kind acts toward them personally.
His faith in God’s promise of the resurrection (John 5:28,29) and accurate knowledge of what happens when we die (John 11:11) enabled him to face his own death with courage and dignity.
Growing up, Lawrence lived for a time in Maine and later in Virginia. He developed a love of sports, including golf, water sports, snow skiing as well as fishing. And he enjoyed patiently teaching others to enjoy such activities as well. In his professional life Lawrence worked at various times in sales, finance, real estate, insurance. Also for a time he operated a painting business locally. Through these endeavors he patiently and kindly touched many, many lives and truly enjoyed helping others.
The Bible, at Ecclesiastes 11:1 says: “Cast your bread on the waters, for after many days you will find it again.” This proved true for Lawrence and Sharon. Years of lovingly being of help to others came back during Lawrence final illness. Many whom they had touched with kind deeds readily made themselves available to help with practical matters as well as emotional and spiritual support. Family including Jeremy, Rebecca and Brandon Henry. David and Diana (Sharon’s sister), and nephew Benjamin Prickett, his wife Xiaohong and son Samuel, and niece Mercedes Mort and her husband Steve ensured they were not alone in dealing with this hard time. Close friends like the Barnes, Hailes, Fields and many golf and fishing “buddies” along with a large spiritual family including loving shepherds gave needed support. Likewise did kind, caring and understanding friends and coworkers at Banker’s Life and Clemmons Elementary School. Additionally the staff at Atrium Baptist hospital in Winston-Salem and later the amazing, compassionate staff of Trellis Supportive Care (Hospice) truly helped with so many practical matters that enabled Lawrence to be at home where he wanted to be. Thanks to all!!
In lieu of flowers, take time to offer a kind word or patiently help someone in need. Lawrence would want that. You are also welcome to make a donation in his memory to the worldwide work of Jehovah’s Witnesses at donate.jw.org.
Please join us for a memorial service on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at 2:30 pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 4665 Murray Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.

Lawrence touched all he came in contact with in a very positive way! As his brother-in-law I had opportunity to see many, many small and large acts of kindness. An Lawrence displayed a consistent sense of decency that permeated all he did.
We look forward to seeing him again in Paradise in “the resurrection of the righteous” that Jesus spoke of in John 5.
Wonderful memories of time spent with Lawrence and Sharon include beach and ski trips, cookouts, Carolina Panthers games, boating at Belews Creek, poker games, assemblies and conventions together.
I already feel a gaping hole where Lawrence should be and can’t wait to see him again, reunited with Sharon and the rest of us that miss him.
Love you Sharon!
