Bobby Glen Mobley

On Friday, August 23, Bobby Glen Mobley left his earthly life to join his many brothers and sisters in
heaven. Bobby grew up on a farm in Robersonville, NC where he was the youngest of 8 children. When
he was in middle school, he met the love of his life, Joan Manning, and first held her hand on an eighth-
grade school field trip to Raleigh. After attending UNC-Chapel Hill for one year, he and Joan decided to
marry so he left Chapel Hill, returned to Robersonville, married Joan, and farmed with his dad. A few
years later, Bobby took a job as a tobacco buyer for Liggett-Myers Tobacco Company and later AC Monk,
a job that he absolutely loved and did until he took early retirement at 55 years old. Bobby also loved
golf and was amazingly skilled at the sport as seen by the many championship plaques engraved with his
name on the walls of Robersonville Country Club. After leaving the world of tobacco, he and Joan
moved to Mount Dora, Florida to work with Joan’s brother at a boy’s ranch for abandoned and abused
boys where he was head of maintenance, as he was always very handy with tools and machinery. After
retirement from this job, he spent many days on the course where he lived in Mount Dora cramming in
as much golf as he could in a week. Twenty-three years ago, he moved back to North Carolina
(Clemmons) to be closer to his children. He became a ranger at Tanglewood Golf Club, and he and Joan
became famous mall walkers winning prizes for the number of miles they walked around Hanes Mall.
These walks typically took the entire morning because they met and befriended most every mall and
store employee and stopped often for hugs and conversation.
Bobby waited to leave this world until after celebrating his sixty-eight-wedding anniversary on August
19. He is survived by his wife, Joan, his daughter, Lynn (Ernie), his son, Alex (Michelle); his
grandchildren, Trey (JP), Chad, Corey (Emma), Kristen (Turner), and Brendan; and his great-
grandchildren, Harper, Taylor and Carter. A celebration of life will be held on September 21 at 11:00 am
at First Christian Church in Robersonville, NC. Family visitation will follow the service in the fellowship
hall where friends are invited to join the family for lunch.
