Linda Burnette Harmon

1963 - 2024

Linda Burnette Harmon was born on April 4, 1963 to Luther Burnette and
Etherine Gibbs.
From childhood, she was an extremely motivated individual who found joy in
reading and studying. In her early adulthood, she attended Tarrant Community
College and moved abroad to England. A few years after her return, she gave
birth to her first child, Michaela Banks, and a two years later to Daniel Kelly.
Linda was a fierce advocate and cheerleader for her children’s education and
development, which led to her obtaining a BA in teaching from Buffalo State
University and later on an MA from Western Governor’s University.
When she wasn’t teaching, she enjoyed spending time with her family, going to
musicals and concerts with her husband Terry, traveling, gardening, practicing
mindfulness and doing puzzles, cooking with Michaela and Daniel, and beating
them at scrabble and Upwords.
She will be severely missed by her surviving family: her parents, five sisters, two
brothers, two children, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and her husband.
To honor her legacy, her family has started a fund under her name to provide
mental health services and mindfulness programs to middle schools in North
Carolina. Donations can be made online at https://wsfoundation.org/harmon or
checks can be made out to The Winston Salem Foundation with the memo titled
“Linda Burnette Harmon Memorial Fund.”
